Geography Awareness Week
A National Geographic Initiative, the purpose of Geography Awareness Week is for students to engage in fun, educational experiences that draw attention to Geo-Literacy and the importance of geographic understanding. This site contains may helpful resources for GAW 2011 on Freshwater including lesson plans, games, videos, worksheets, etc. It also contains more information about how to incorporate GAW in your classrooom and school.

This site provides free, online professional development modules for geography and social studies teachers at the middle and high school levels. The modules provide information and materials for teachers who are preparing to teach about global climate change. Geography.com offers two educational portals, one for students and one for educators dedicated to geography. This site offers many resources, as well as links to sites on mapping, GIS, places, cultures, etc.

The World Factbook
The World Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world entities. The reference tab includes: maps of the major world regions, as well as Flags of the World, a Physical Map of the World, a Political Map of the World, and a Standard Time Zones of the World map.
